Although pressure-treated word will not rot, it is still subject to drying and weathering effects that can weaken it over time and obscure the natural beauty of the wood.  A good linseed oil-based solid or semi-transparent stain provides a protective coating, like bark, and the linseed oil acts much like wood’s natural protective oils. A protective sealant stain  should be applied thirty to sixty days after construction for all exterior wood, including pressure treated.
