Why does your driveway need to be sealed?

Simple answer: Without treatment, asphalt deteriorates quickly.  Surely you have noticed that roads are repaved every few years.  That is partly due to the high traffic load, but also to the effects of time. The asphalt binder that holds the pavement together oxidizes as a result of exposure to UV light allowing moisture to penetrate the asphalt.  Freezing and thawing of that water widens the cracks and the pavement begins to literally fall apart.  A quality sealcoating extends the life of the binder by protecting it from exposure to UV light and by sealing cracks that would otherwise let surface water penetrate the asphalt. 

Capitol sealcoating uses only Sealmaster coal tar pavement sealer, a high quality product produced by an industry leader.  This product is formulated to give the highest quality results using a mix of water, polymer additive and sand.  The polymer additive gives flexibility to the sealer and provides greater resistance to substances that are harmful to your driveway such as road salt, oil, fuel, and grease.
